WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump says he wants another package of coronavirus mitigation measures to be “very generous” with direct incentive payments to Americans, who are potentially more than $ 1,200.
“Actually, it could be higher,” Trump said in an interview with ABC KMID in Texas on Wednesday during a trip to the state.
“I wish it was very high because I love people,” he said. “I want people to understand.”
The president has not worked out how much he monitors direct payments. When he left the White House earlier in the day, Trump said his priorities for the next measure were payments and a moratorium on evictions. Congress said it could look at other issues “later,” while acknowledging that Republicans and Democrats are “far apart” on other important issues.
The Republican Senate’s stimulus plan, released Monday, proposes up to $ 1,200 per person for people up to $ 75,000. Democrats passed legislation in May that includes $ 1,200 direct payments, with a structure similar to that of March.
However, negotiators on both sides indicated on Wednesday that they had made no progress in the agreement when they met for the third time this week.
“We have nothing in common,” Finance Minister Steven Mnuchin told reporters after a meeting with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, DN.Y. and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.
Pelosi told reporters that Republicans offered the idea of a “poor law” that “does nothing” to address coronaviruses, which Democrats do not accept. Pelosi and Schumer sought to extend unemployment benefits by $ 600, which expires by the end of the week. Republicans, meanwhile, have proposed $ 200 a week to switch to 70 percent of the person’s previous salary in October.
