The US should prepare for the “effects of wind, heavy rain and storms” as Tropical Storm Isaias heads its predicted path to the east coast.
The storm, as on Thursday afternoon, bothered Puerto Rico with a steady wind up to 60 km / h and was about 85 kilometers southeast of Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic.
“There is a risk of the effects of wind, heavy rain and storms on parts of the east coast of the United States, which will begin this weekend in Florida and spread north to the Carolinas and southern Mid-Atlantic states early next week,” the hurricane center said. Nevertheless, “due to the interaction of Isaias with Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic), the details of the route and intensity forecast remain unclear and it is too early to determine the extent and location of these potential impacts,” the center added.
The storm has so far eliminated power for more than 400,000 clients across Puerto Rico, and government officials say about 150,000 customers have been left without water. Extensive floods and some small landslides have been reported here.

In the Dominican Republic, Isaias toppled trees because government workers in some slums used loudspeakers to force people to evacuate before the worst of the storm. Police also arrested a handful of surfers in the capital, Santo Domingo, on charges of violating government storm warnings.
Isaiah moved northwest by 20 mph on Thursday afternoon. Its center was expected to move through Hispaniola later in the day and near the southeastern Bahamas by early Friday.
Tropical storm warnings have been issued for the Turks and Caicos Islands, parts of the Dominican Republic, Haiti and the Bahamas.

Isaias is expected to produce 4 to 8 inches of rain across Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and northern Haiti, with a maximum isolated maximum of 10 inches.
The Bahamas, Turks and Caicos could see 4 to 8 inches of rain, while Cuba saw 1 to 2 inches, with an isolated maximum of 4 inches.
