We know from previous trailers that the second season Umbrella Academy sends Hargreev siblings to the 1960s, when they must unite to save the apocalypse from repetition. However, a new look at the opening scene of this season shows that the apocalypse comes sooner rather than later.
In this clip from episode 1, five fall from a whirling vortex on November 25, 1963, only to find flames in downtown Dallas, Soviet tanks attacked the city, and of course its siblings in the midst of it all. And as with all the iconic action sequences in the series, an unexpected choice of music begins: Frank Sinatra̵7;s “My Way”.
Based on Gerard Way’s comic (yes, Gerard Way’s), Umbrella Academy followed by six superpowers of siblings raised by an eccentric and controlling father who met after his death. The first season ended at the end of the world, and the siblings skipped the whirlwind of turbulence, which apparently threw them all out in the 1960s.
Second season Umbrella Academy drops on Netflix on July 31st.
