Two weeks after Tamar Braxton was hospitalized in Los Angeles for suicide attempt real The co-guest issued a strong statement about the impact of reality television on her mental health.
“I was betrayed, exploited, overworked and underpaid,” Braxton wrote on social media on Thursday. “Two months ago, I wrote a letter asking for exemption from what I considered to be disproportionate and unfair. Personally, I explained in detail the extinction I experienced. My call for help was completely ignored. However, the requirements persisted. … who I was [began] to think of nothing for nothing, because it would be just as I was portrayed on television, which would matter. It witnessed the slow death of the woman I became, who discouraged my will to fight. I felt like I was gone. I existed for profit and the company̵7;s rating, and that killed me. Mental illness is real. We must normalize and acknowledge this and stop associating ourselves with shame and humiliation. “
Braxton went on to emphasize that “the personalities of television reality do not have unions, a protective cloak, a formal representation that protects our work, our rights, our voices. They promise us an opportunity, but they produce an exploitation that has developed only a bad portrayal of blacks in show business. “
After thanking his fans for their support, Braxton promised to “do everything in my power to help those who [suffer] from mental illnesses, including those of us [whose] the mental illness was only the result of a toxic, systematic slavery that prevailed [in] television. I am only here for God’s grace and mercy in my attempt to end my pain and my life to use my voice. “
