HAMPTON ROADS, Va (WAVY) – The gym is open, but your daily workout now looks completely different: Planet Fitness now requires members to wear masks at all times on the company’s premises.
Between the warmth outside and the warmth you feel when you work, some people say they would rather cancel their membership than continue working on Planet Fitness, which has a dozen places in the Hampton Roads region.
Company leaders have sent 10 this statement on your side:
“As we continue to face the COVID-19 pandemic, amid an ongoing global health crisis, wellness has never been more important to our collective community than it is today. Gyms are part of the solution and a key element of the healthcare delivery system, which provides people with the necessary access to exercise and health. Given our industry leadership, we believe it is our responsibility to further protect our members, employees and the community so that we can all safely focus on our health, which is more important today than ever before. “

They too sent a tip tip from one of their coaches Help people with adjustments, but not everyone is convinced that exercising with a mask is for them.
However, a new request for a mask has averted at least one local Planet Fitness member.
“My first trial was that I had to cancel my membership,” said Alfred Punter. He didn’t see the video when Tamara Scott spoke to him on Tuesday 10. He was on your side, but he said that when he heard the new rules, it was an easy decision.
“I understand what they are trying to do. I think we are all trying to do what we can to help slow the spread of this virus. Who wants to practice with a mask? ” he said.
He said he was concerned about other aspects of health.
“It’s hard enough to wear a mask when it’s hot outside, when it’s hot, then go to the gym, work out the sweat, get out, I see a lot of people get sick behind it,” he said.
In the video, the trainer explains the different ways to exercise, even finding the right mask for you.
“Now, of course, there are masks designed to help you breathe during exercise, but some of these masks can be quite expensive and I don’t try to spend a lot of money on a mask just so I can exercise.” Punter said.
Other people agree with Punter. They said they also fear health risks and comfort.
“I’m a pro-mask. I wear a mask everywhere I go. However, when it comes to exercise, I would like to feel comfortable and be able to breathe when I work … so you can do all the exercises correctly, “he added.
Many people said that while they are canceling now, they will consider renewing their membership when the COVID-19 message is clear.
