On July 29, Elton John celebrated thirty years of sobriety.
“Reflecting the most magical day I celebrated Sobrieta’s 30th birthday,” John, 73, wrote on Instagram on Wednesday.
The singer “Tiny Dancer” was surrounded by his husband David Furnish and their children Zachary and Elijah for his big milestone.

“So many beautiful cards, flowers and chips from my sons, David, friends in the program, employees in the office and at home,” John continued in his post. “I am a truly blessed man.”
He added grimly, “If I hadn̵7;t finally taken a big step 30 years ago when I asked for help, I would have been dead.”
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the people who inspired and supported me along the way,” the singer concluded, “I’m still standing.”

John’s addiction to drugs and alcohol was strongly portrayed in the 2019 Rocketman biopsy movie.
“There were times when I had a chest pain or stayed three days at a time,” Variety said in May 2019. “I usually had spasms and was found on the floor and they put me back in bed and half an hour later I would do the same. It’s crazy. “
The Grammy Award winner continued: “I am a survivor. I survived a lot of things. Life is full of pitfalls, even if you are sober. Now I can deal with them because I don’t have to run and hide. “

John also wrote a personal essay for Variety in November 2019. “Today, my best advice for people facing this difficult morning day of sobriety is humility,” he wrote.

“Make recovery an absolute priority over everything else. Don’t go back to work too soon, “said John. “I don’t think I’d be sober today if I hadn’t voted for a whole year and thrown myself into a recovery program.”
