A Detroit man was shot Thursday after he shot a sword in the middle of the street and then threw a dagger at a police officer.
Detroit Police Chief James Craig said the incident happened around 7:15 p.m. Thursday on the Grand River and Meyers Rd in northwest Detroit.
“The suspect was standing in the middle of the street armed with a sword,” Craig said Thursday night. “When the officers got there, they told him to leave it. At some point, the suspect draws his second sword; I think he had a three plus dagger.

“He throws a dagger and hits the officer under his eyes,” Craig said. “The officer has deployed a Taser, but the suspect appears to be wearing tactical gear and the Taser will not take effect.
“The officer then fired a wheel and hit the suspect,” Craig added.
The suspect continued to pursue the officers and jumped to the side of the driver of one of the patrol cars.
“A good Samaritan who saw what was happening … took his personal vehicle and used it to block the suspect,” Craig told reporters.
The boss said it was unclear what would happen next, but the suspect was taken to hospital and succumbed to his injuries.
An officer hit by a dagger is being treated at a local hospital for a laceration under his right eye.
The case is still under investigation. Filming today marked the third fatal death and the fourth police department in Detroit this month.
